How do I study in a Maritime English course?

1. Use Lesson Plans

You can improve more if you complete the following tasks after watching videos (ideally, you should do this with every video, especially if you are already a more advanced learner):

• Open the Lesson Plan by clicking its icon (on the right side of any video)

After clicking the icon, a small window will pop up. 

How does the Lesson Plan work?

1. Read the video's text under Video Transcript.
2. Construct sentences with the words under Vocabulary. Do you know their definitions?
3. Answer the Comprehension Questions to assess if you fully understand the video.
4. Use the Discussion Questions to learn to elaborate on topics.

2. Increase your vocabulary 

If you want to pass the final test, you have to know all the words in the videos. By just seeing them once, you will not remember them in the long run. There are various quizzes you can complete; visit this article for more information.

3. Adhere to your weekly goals

Our Maritime English courses consist of 25-35 videos. Although it may be tempting to "just get it over with" and finish the videos in one go, we highly recommend you watch around 3-5 videos per week, learn all unknown words and speak all lines. After watching a video, you should use the lesson plan, as well as quiz the words every time you study. Cutting corners will not help if you want to pass the final test!
