How is my English Grammar & Vocabulary Test score related to my CEFR level?

After you have done your English Grammar & Vocabulary Test, you will receive your score (numbered between 1 and 60). Your result can also serve as an indication of your CEFR level.

The English Grammar & Vocabulary Test & Its limitations

The English Grammar & Vocabulary Test is an online multiple-choice test which provides insight into different aspects of your English language proficiency. Although the English Grammar & Vocabulary Test result can be linked and/or serve as an estimation of your CEFR level, this test does not determine it for sure.

Rather, it compliments the Level Test which is conducted by a live tutor in the EnglishCentral classroom. The Level Test is the one to confidently establish your CEFR level.

This is so because a multiple-choice test, like English Grammar & Vocabulary, cannot test all language skills (like speaking, pronunciation and listening) due to its form. Thus, the Level Test is the one to determine your CEFR level in English.

What are CEFR levels?

CEFR is short for Common European Frame of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. CEFR measures your skills in a second language, i.e., not your native language, using 6 levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. To see their short explanation, consult the table below. To have a deeper understanding of each CEFR level, explore the articles linked below.
