Past, present or future orientation

Looking back or looking ahead?
Linear-active cultures and multi-active cultures have very different orientations when it comes to time.

Getting things done

Linear-active cultures, such as the Netherlands are focused on getting things done in the not too distant future. Their actions are part of a timeline and have deadlines. Mid-term planning is the way forward, step-by-step.

Focus on the present

Multi-active cultures focus primarily on the present, since the past is gone and the future uncertain. The key reality is what is happening today. The day unfolds and one has to handle events accordingly. Time is mostly spent with building and maintaining relationships and networks.
