What do the scores of the two tests mean?

The online video conversation test and the multiple-choice tests

All test options that Spot On Learning provides consist of a 20 minute online video conversation with an English teacher and a separate multiple-choice test. The combination makes the Spot On Learning testing methodology both comprehensive and practical. In this article, we will explain how to read both results.

The Level Test can be combined with the following tests:

1. An online English Grammar & Vocabulary Test (G&V Test)

  • 60 multiple-choice questions

2. An online English Grammar, Vocabulary & Reading test (GV&R Test)

  • 60 multiple-choice questions
  • 3 reading assignments

3. An online English Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading & Writing test (GVR&W Test)

  • 60 multiple-choice questions
  • 3 reading assignments
  • 3 writing assignments

The multiple-choice test scores

The multiple-choice test is to nuance and serves as an extra measurable check to balance the assessment of the tutor. Depending on how many questions per test, the norms differ. Underneath, you can see how many items you need to answer correctly to get a certain CEFR Level per test.

The multiple-choice test results

Once the participant completed the multiple-choice test, the results will be visible in the scorecard. The scorecards work like a drop-down menu, by clicking on the course in the scorecard, the results can be made visible.

How do I know if my participant met the required level?

We advise using the English (online video conversation) Level Test score as a leading score. The spoken test consists of a 20-minute conversation with an English teacher; the teacher will check the listening, speaking, fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary skills. This is the leading score because this test reflects how well someone can communicate in practice. In our spoken test, someone will need to show that they understand questions and have to show that he/she is able to respond adequately.

About the English Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading & Writing Test

The first two test options (the G&V and GV&R Test) consist of only multiple-choice questions. The results are visible right after completing the test. The writing section in the GVR&W Test needs to be reviewed by a teacher. The teacher will need some time to review the writing assingments so it will take some time before your final score is determined and shared with you.

Reviewed?

In the scorecard, you can see if the writing assignments are reviewed or not. The score before the review is a preliminary result and is only 70% of the full score. Our teachers will review the writing assignments within 5 working days. You final score will then be shown in the scorecard. Below you can see an example of both scorecards; before review and after review. Only after the test is reviewed by a Spot On Learning teacher, the final result is visible.
